Threadbanger has a great thrifty tutorial posted on how to make your own body form, on the cheap. The materials list actually includes a Christmas tree stand as well as part of the tree trunk! The grand total cost comes out to a whopping $10 for a totally custom body form. Now that’s easy on the pocket and the planet. Check it out:

I bought a tree stand at thrift shop, $3, found a broom handle, free. Covered that with the leftover cardboard paper towel roll, then used pieces of felt, newspaper balled up, (to make form), covered that with after Christmas (on sale, 70% off) wide ribbon, duct tape, then proceeded to paper mache it. Not as true to form as using a person, but once the clothes are on, I don’t think it will matter. Besides it’s a free form.
    enjoyed your video.

I'm a word nerd who loves to geek out on how emerging technology affects the lexicon. I was an editor on the first 40 volumes of MAKE, and I love shining light on the incredible makers in our community. In particular, covering art is my passion — after all, art is the first thing most of us ever made. When not fawning over perfect word choices, I can be found on the nearest mountain, looking for untouched powder fields and ideal alpine lakes.
