I don’t know anyone who’s a crafter who doesn’t also have at least a little bit of a button obsession. So, this tutorial for making your own shrink plastic buttons from scissorspaperwok is probably going to make you just as excited as it made me. Hello, fancy homemade buttons!

Does anyone know where I can get some of this shrink plastic? These buttons are sweet!
Amy – You can use plastic that is marked #6 on the bottom (you can usually find this kind of plastic when you buy cookies from the grocery store deli, or other similar deli items). You scratch up one side of the plastic with steel wool or something else as abrasive so that your pen or marker drawing will stick and not smudge off (once it shrinks, you won’t be able to tell it was scratched up). Then you will have the same thing as the shrink plastic that this tutorial calls for, but for free.
Please be sure to seal your shrink work with a suitable sealer. I make a line of jewelry that I sell very similar to these earrings and any solvent based product namely perfume, hairspray or other aerosol products all contain solvents similar to acetone that simply dissolve the picture right off. So please please be sure to seal with a non solvent based sealer or you will end up with no images left after a few serious washes. This is the one draw back with Shrink plastic otherwise it is an amazing craft material.
