Becky Stern at Adafruit has come up with another flashy wearable– this time for your kicks. The Firewalker LED sneakers respond to your footsteps with a cascading rim of lights around the soles.
Pieces of velostat are sewn into the heel of each sneaker and detect the resistive difference upon each footfall. This is wired into a Flora microcontroller that controls the LED array glued to the rim of each shoe, adding a glitzy bling to to your walk.
The entire setup is self-contained, even with an internal battery pack. Adafruit provides a full tutorial in case you want to give it a try yourself.
