Looking for New York Crafty Favorites

Craft & Design

I’ll be heading to BlogHer this weekend and when I’m not taking lots of note or hopping from panel to panel, I’d love to check out NYC’s crafty finest. What are your must-see craft spots in the city?

The Public Library is very inspiring, particularly the Manhattan main branch. It has some incredible print and photograph collections, etc –
    City Quilter – http://www.cityquilter.com/
    The Ink Pad – http://www.theinkpadnyc.com/
    Metalliferous – http://www.metalliferous.com/
    Folk Art Museum http://www.folkartmuseum.org/
(they have some great exhibits right now, namely the private collection of Henry Darger and Folk Art by Women)
    Urban Alchemist – http://www.urbanalchemiststore.com/
    (awesome shop in Park Slope)
Center for Book Arts – http://www.centerforbookarts.org/
I live in Brooklyn so let me know if you have questions about anything in particular that I haven’t listed that you want to see.

The Museum of Art and Design (formerly the American Craft Museuem)
Purl Soho: A beautiful needle crafts store with a well-edited selection of yarns, threads, fabrics, supplies, and notions
Tender Buttons: Best. Button. Store. Ever. (But call ahead to be sure it’s open on the weekend.)
    Have fun!
