The Countdown to Maker Faire Bay Area is On!

Modded Out Credentials from Maker Faire Detroit

Craft & Design Home

At Maker Faire Detroit, each maker was given a credential to sport. They had a place to write your name, and served to let everyone know you were part of the event. If you have ever met a maker, you know that we are the sort who will modify anything and everything we can get our hands on. And the badges were no exception. Perhaps the most popular mod I spotted was the addition of a “Mitten” felt pin from the team at Handmade Detroit. I especially loved this orange old English embroidered “D”.
Everything is better with flames on it!
My friend Kate added blue lace to her lanyard at the Xyron booth. It went great with her Crew T-shirt!
Jimmie rocked his blue ribbon, along with some LED bling.

You…you do know that’s the shape of Michigan, right? Not a mitten? If I missed something where it was obviously a joke about how it looks like a mitten, you can kick me, but I just had to be sure.

It is a bit of slang I picked up while I was in Detroit. I was told that you could show people what part of Michigan you are from by using your hand (held as if it were in a mitten) as a rough shape of the state. And don’t worry, I won’t kick you for not knowing, as I just learned of the Michigan/Mitten correlation myself!

That’s so funny, I never would have thought of doing that! I wonder if you could do the same for Pennsylvania (my homestate) by holding your hand sideways, with your thumb up a little. Of course, I’d have to be able to actually point out where I am for that to work. Lived here my whole life, and I still suck at pointing out our state capital on a map. Tragic, really.
P.S. I’m a sucker for slang, so thanks for the info!

Not only is that Old English “D” really cool looking, it’s also the MLB Detroit Tiger’s “D”. This maker is truly loyal to his team. ;)

That’s probably Bilal from AHA (All Hands Active), right?

Besides his flaming badge, he rocked a sweet one piece tan jumpsuit all weekend. Dude has style for days!
