Bump Up The Jam with Weekend Projects

Whether you’re looking to add a little technotronic boost to the low-frequency spectrum of your preferred audio source or you want to learn and experiment with sound circuits, Weekend Projects is here to help beginning makers and enthusiasts alike.

Our latest project, the Bass Bump Headphone Amp, will resonate with audiophiles everywhere for it’s simple enclosure, two-channel control, and use of the classic LM386 amplifier. Not to mention the joy of assembling a homemade audio circuit (on one of my favorite styles of perfboard, which is also the same perfboard design as Hershberger’s previously successful amplifier project, the MonoBox Powered Speaker).

This is a difficult enough circuit to build once, let alone twice! That’s why a very detailed walk-through of laying out and soldering the perfboard are provided on the project page, and the video below will visualize the circuit with an animated illustration, along with showing step-by-step populating of the perfboard.

Once you’ve gathered all the components and fired up your soldering iron, this project could be completed in a few hours, giving you that added boost of bass you’ve been looking for in your tunes. Power the project with a battery and go mobile or as maker Ross Hershberger shows you can mod the circuit for desktop (or turntable!) applications.

If you modify the circuit or simply design a slick enclosure to contain the original circuit, send us a note with images of your build and a story of your experience making Weekend Projects!
