Masten Space Systems is taking sub-orbital payload orders – “We have officially begun taking payload slot orders. Payloads are generally sold in 1 kilogram increments at $250 per kilo. For those that want a standardized form factor we are offering CanSat flights. A CanSat is the same size as a standard 12 oz soda can with a mass limit of 350 grams. You can buy kits from various vendors such as Pratt Hobbies. Normally CanSat flights are $199 but for a limited time they are going for an introductory $99. Remember, this is suborbital only. We won’t be offering orbital payloads for several years and even then they won’t be anywhere near the $199 price. Over the next several months we will be releasing versions of the payload manual which includes interface definitions and physical characteristics such as vibration and G loads. Only customers who have signed up will receive these manuals so sign up early!Link.

I’m thinking of modding a CVS digital video camera, or a cheapie digital video camera and shooting a mini movie with some zero g props in a CanSat…Space movie!

Isn’t there enough junk floating around Earth?!
Just because we can doesn’t mean we should.

  2. philliptorrone says:

blue – the rocket goes up, then it comes down (sub-orbital).

  3. Jnixon says:

They should offer a way to shoot stuff right at the sun. I still have some of my ex-girlfriend’s junk that’s been hanging around for 6 months. Wouldn’t mind burning some of it up on the sun.

I can see a clip on ferrite being used as a audio input in the photo I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to modify one to pick up audio from a line?

    insomnia anyone?

You didn’t use an amplifier or anything, PT?

I have tried to record from my DS (original fatty) to my Powerbook (jacking up the line in even) and haven’t had anywhere near the sound quality (in terms of sound-level) that you did. Sounds great!

  4. philliptorrone says:

marusin – just plugged in to the back of the g5, that was it.
