I stumbled on these amazing painted hand photographs on Recyclart, and was blown away by how easily my brain could let go of the knowledge that these are hands and just get lost in their color and imagery. They are done by Italian artist, Mario Mariotti, who died in 1997. Most of the images were created back in the 1980s, but their bold color and vivid depictions of everything from owls to piano players is as strong as ever.

Oh wow! I recognized these immediately! My sister and I had a picture book of some of these painted hand photographs when we were little girls. We used to look at it ALL THE TIME! Thanks for reminding me of something I’d long since forgotten :)
