There are two hot properties engulfing living rooms everywhere across North America. One is of the animated variety and the other is of the ‘must have’ home furnishings persuasion.
First we have one of the hottest anime programs in the history of the genre! Attack on Titan has become a breakout hit from the onset of the first season and the growing fan-base of the show collectively salivates in anticipation of season two in 2016. This upcoming Comic Con schedule will no doubt be overrun by Colossal Titans and Survey Corps warriors from San Diego to Toronto!
Second, although not as exciting or as fever-pitched as Attack on Titan, is the growing emergence of what is known as the C-table. In the home décor business, C-tables are all the rage!
For those of you who have not yet experience this new fad of home convenience and comfort, C-tables are the evolution of TV trays and side tables. A simple design made to provide a perfectly leveled eating surface while we sit comfortably watching TV. When not in use, slide it aside and BAM – you have an aesthetically pleasing side table for flowers or books or whatever you want displayed.
The C-table can also be used as a nightstand and laptop table. Really, this table is small enough, light enough, yet strong enough to be used in a variety of ways. That’s the real allure!
Last week, while watching reruns of Attack on Titan with my hot dinner plate precariously balancing on my lap, the convergence of the two concepts hijacked my mind and before the night was over, the Attack on Titan cardboard C-table was taking form.
Using visual samples from over-priced eBay listings for C-tables (these things sell for like $50-$700+ each!?) and incorporating hand cut emblems from Attack on Titan, the completed C-table was made within 24 hours.
A touch of spray paint gives the Attack on Titan C-table that extra eye-popping quality. Each of the Attack on Titan character emblems – Survey Corps, Military Police, Training Corps, and Garrison Regiment – were hand cut and sprayed with their respective colors to stay as true to the original designs as possible.
Weighing just 7 pounds and capable of supporting upwards of 20 pounds, this useful table is pleasing to the eye, fun to use, and is now my best friend at dinner time in front of the TV! I also added in a little book nook to store manga and comics books.
This specific Attack on Titan C-table design is part of a broader upcycling campaign I have launched to create the Ultimate Cardboard Craft Book. Instructions on how to make a similar design of this table are slated to be chapter five of the finished book. The Ultimate Cardboard Book is intended to be a unique DIY manual to showcase never-before-published crafts anyone can make out of cardboard in the comfort of the home.
