Halloween: Reveal Your Cardboard Superhero/Sci-fi Hero

In my last blog post I went into detail about accessorizing Halloween costumes with homemade cardboard swords.  Now, there is the main question left unanswered…what to do about the costume itself?

The answer lies in the same material I’ve been happily preaching about since starting this blog – sweet, sweet cardboard!make_halloweenbadgeV2 (1)

Now, there is nothing new or revolutionary about using cardboard to make a costume.  Cosplayers have been doing it for years and if you explore YouTube, you will find a vast array of Iron Man, Transformer and superhero-based costumes made from just cardboard, spray paint and duct tape.  Some of these designs are simply mind-blowing (check out this amazing homemade Soundwave and Voltron costume).

As thoughtful and intricate as these costumes are, they take numerous months of planning/implementation and more cardboard than most people have lying around.  Most parents and students just don’t have the time, materials or even desire to put into complicated costumes of an immense magnitude.  You want your costume to look good for this Halloween, but not take a millennia to get there.

With superheroes and sci-fi properties being red-hot this year, it’s a good bet many of you would like to look truly heroic for the 31st and on a budget.  I have a few easy, simple and fun superhero-based costume concepts and accessories you can make to design a costume that will stand out from the crowd (and then can be safely recycled or composted later).

Use your imagination and creativity to make each concept your own. Have a fun, safe and action packed Halloween and make sure to get enough candy to make your dentist pee himself.
