We’ve featured the remarkable work of Dominic Wilcox here on the Make: blog in the past, but now a short documentary called “The Reinvention of Normal” from filmmaker Liam Saint-Pierre gives us a glimpse into the extraordinary mind behind the work.

In addition to showcasing several of his works in action, the video also gives us some insight into the unorthodox approach that informs Wilcox’s almost-inexplicable making process.

Having a playful approach helps me be creative, which is lucky because it’s quite exciting and I enjoy the playfulness and just doing things, even though they’re completely ridiculous sometimes. So what? Let’s do the ridiculous, and by doing the ridiculous something else might come of it.

So, the next time you start a project, don’t forget to take a page out of Wilcox’s book and do the ridiculous!
