There was actually a French street artist that went by the name of Invader. He made tile mosaics of the Space Invaders game sprites and stuck them to buildings, bridges, etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invader_%28artist%29

The second of those is one I did at work … on the window of a radio station control room.
The tricky part was getting the notes to stay stuck and even. I ended up using tape in addition to the sticky side of the notes.
Next morning, the lady who used that console in the morning had taken down parts of the invader because she wanted to see out the window. Didn’t have a clue that there was a pattern to the squares.
