8 Star Wars Yarncraft Projects You Can Do While Waiting in Line

Craft & Design Yarncraft

We are now just a couple of days away — mere hours really — from the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There’s a lot to be excited about (new Star Wars! Yay!) and a lot to be nervous about (please don’t repeat the mistakes of Episodes I–III). If the long build up of anticipation is finally getting to you and you’re feeling it in your shaking hands and twitching body, we’ve got the perfect yarn and thread based Star Wars projects to put those restless fingers to use.

And since movie theaters aren’t as cheap as they used to be (especially if you’re going for the 3D or IMAX experience), each of these projects is available free either as patterns or tutorials.

Death Star

Death-Star

If you’re a rebel and you’re taking a nap on the Death Star, chances are things aren’t going your way. But this crocheted Death Star looks cozy enough to cuddle.

Patricia of Pops de Milk has updated her post since we first featured this project on Make:, so it now includes video instructions on how to get started and finish off your Death Star.

Vader Cross Stitch

“I find your lack of faith disturbing” is probably one of the most iconic lines from the franchise. You can immortalize those famous words and a small Darth Vader with cross stitch.

Double Knit Star Wars Scarf

The Millennium Falcon, TIE Fighters, Rebel and Imperial insignia, and a number of Star Wars weapons adorn this knitted scarf. The double knitting technique you’ll use gives it a reversible light side and a dark side.

Boba Fett Bag

Carry your movie tickets in style in this crocheted Boba Fett helmet bag. The two-sided design captures all the details of the front and back of the helmet, including dings and weathering.

Lightsaber Freezie Coozie

Freezie-Saber-Hilt

Swap out the freezie for a glow stick in this crochet project, for a less sticky, less cold alternative that will be fun to wave around as you wait outside in a line to see the movie. If you go this route, be sure to stash it somewhere it won’t glow once you’re inside or you may find yourself in a very real chokehold before the trailers end.

Cloud City

Featuring clouds and a trio of TIE fighters in hot pursuit of a tiny Millennium Falcon, this knitting project is really immersive. Once you’re done knitting indulge yourself by recreating the escape from Cloud City with lots of “Pew! Pew! Pew!” laser fire.

BB-8 Hat

BB-8 only needed to roll and chirp a bit in the trailers to inspire a devoted cult following, dedicated to recreating the little droid in any way or shape it can. This knitted cap will keep your head warm as you brave cold weather on your way to see a screening.

Felt Star Wars Ornaments

Apparently there’s a holiday or something that’s happening soon that isn’t related to Star Wars… well, you can fix that. With only a little felt, stuffing, and a handful of stitches you can deck out your Christmas tree with Vader, Yoda, and a gun-toting Leia.
