I saw this post today on Herman Miller’s Lifework blog and immediately recognized all of the illustrated notebooks by Jordan Awan. Where do you keep your ideas? Me – I’m a Maker’s Notebook gal, as you can see by my intricate drawing of what kind of birthday present I want next week (a whale that can blow confetti out of it’s, um, whale hole).
All the notebooks featured in the post are examples of great design. During the month of July, CRAFT will focus on design and photography. Check back July 1 for the debut.

Some of my ideas are logged in my plain-paper Moleskine. I also have a dot-grid notebook that catches other ideas. I use my graph paper Maker Notebook too. Basically, whatever happens to be the nearest, when an idea hits. So all this is to say, I have a scattered style of documenting my ideas. I’ve got tons of ideas scribbled on the backs of receipts and in the margins of newspaper scraps, too. I aspire to organization. But I also see creative value in an unstructured style of documentation.
Like Laura, I’m a scribbler and often write on the back of receipts.
I’m also totally guilty of being Gen-Y and putting all notes into my iPhone…
