The Ohio Knitting Mills Knitting Book by Steven Tatar with Denise Grollmus is available now! Tatar is the President and Creative Director of Ohio Knitting Mills, a company that offers unique virgin vintage knitwear from 1947-74 made at the historic Cleveland Ohio mill. (You can read more and see my photos from an Ohio Knitting Mills Trunk Show a few years ago.) Now with this new book, these vintage patterns can be knit by you! The book is filled with vintage-style fashions and accessories for women, with a few handsome men’s patterns thrown in there too. I love The Outsider sweater and the Go-Go girl sweater dress below. Even as the patterns are vintage-inspired, flipping through the book you’ll find that the patterns are really modern and in line with a lot of current trends for fall. The book also features archival illustrations of sweater sketches as well as amazing photos showcasing the history of this unique American mill.

I was born in Ohio & grew up there! Plus I’m obsessed with knitting, of course.
I recently began seriously knitting this summer. I find vintage patterns to be absolutely amazing to knit! Many vintage patterns have awesome geometric shapes requiring me to learn complex knitting techniques while creating fabulous wear for myself! Vintage knitting patterns I am interested in are those that can be worn in at least two seasons. I believe this book would be a perfect addition to my library. ^_^
I want it because the patterns look fun and I would like to give it a go!
I also love vintage fashion and cool stories to go with it, like the history of this mill. This looks like a really cool book.
super cool pictures
I saw this book while browsing at a local bookstore and showed the book to my mom. She saw this one sweater in it and fell in love with it. I really wanted to get the book for that pattern so I can have it done in time for x-mas. But I have been somewhat broke as of late. So it would be rad if I won!
ooo, I want this book, mostly for it’s cuteness.
I only recently learned how to knit but I’ve been tearing through projects and acquiring new skills. I’d love to buy the book but I live in California and have to spend all my money getting home to Boston for a dear friend’s wedding. On top of that it is imperative that I make and wear the dress on the cover.
Why would I want the book? For knitting inspiration, of course!
I knit and I love vintage clothes. This is a wonderful idea!
I have recently started knitting projects that require more than one skein and am constantly looking for mod vintage patterns to knit. Vintage never goes out of style!
I’m a novice knitter, and I need some really elegant inspiration to push me in this craft. The pictures from this book absolutely blow me away – and that cover dress would look so awesome on my daughter.
I need this for my friend. She is a dear dear friend and an avid knitter.
I am so in love with vintage patterns, but I’ve never tried anything longer than a sweater. Those dresses would be incredible to try!
I’d love this book for new challenges in knitting. The patterns look delicious!!
I’d love this book for the new challenges. The patterns look delicious!!!
I’ve been wanting this book ever since I saw the cover and fell in love with that dress!
I am always looking for new knitting patterns and this looks awesome! Vintage styles are fun to wear.
I want this book because it would give me yet another project to add to the ever growing throng of ones I’ve already started!
I am a new knitter and would absolutely love this book… TY for the giveaway!
I splurged at that trunk show in San Francisco and got the coolest, Ann Margaret looking, boatneck collar pullover circa 1964 in shades of brown and cream…. never regretted it, but certainly wish I could have afforded a couple of the others too! If I had the book, I could just make some!
I also got a chance to spend some time talking to Steven, and hearing the story of how he came to get this whole endeavour rolling- a fascinating collision of accident and foresight. Look up their site, it’s well worth it :)
This looks like a very interesting book because I love vintage knitting.
I’m almost finished with my current knitting project and I’m going to take a picture of that cover to the salon tomorrow as a template for what I want!
I love to sew from vintage patterns, and it would be great to knit some vintage styles, too!
I saw this book the other day at a local big box book store and was hopeful I could find it a small local retailer, but free would be even better. I really love the designs in this book.
I’m hoping the book includes some of the fantastic men’s patterns that are on the ohio knitting mills website!
Me please. I want to try out some of the patterns.
but wow, what neat patterns; I’m looking forward to trying some of them!
Knitting my first sweater dress would be an awesome next project!!
I didn’t even know this woolen mill existed, but I love good long running woolen mill. I’ve been obsessed with Briggs & Little for years, Canada’s oldest at 153 years young and still kickin’

I’m keeping my fingers and addi’s crossed that i win this must-have book! I love vintage knitwear with a modern twist!
I have a high success rate with pre-1970 knitting patterns – it seems my shape went out of fashion after that! I’d love to add some of these pieces to my wardrobe.
I think the style is perfect. I think this would be great! I agree with the post above…. I think my figure went out in that era also!
This book looks like it has a lot of fun patterns. This past Labor Day weekend I pointed out texture & color schemes that reminded me of random sweater patterns to my camping partner. One highway brick wall design reminded me of argyle.
My wife loves fiber. She would dig this book, I would love to surprise her with it.
i really really really want this book! pick me! pick me! ;D
That book looks fantastic! I always need another knitting book. :)
Ooo, something else to enable my yarn addiction!
Yes, I wore many similar styles, and I like the updated versions better. I would love to get this book.
Thanks!

This book is awesome on so many levels! I love the history of the mill and the vintage sweater patterns. I would be so proud to have this book!
I would love a copy of this book. Mostly because I adore the dress on the cover. :)
The dress on the cover is divine. I must make it.
I really like the Go-Go Girl Sweater Dress. I think it would look really cute on my little girl.
