Book Review + Giveaway: Vampire Knits

Yarncraft

Banner Book Vampireknits

Even if you aren’t a Twilight fan or watch “True Blood”, you’ll love the edgy and stylish knitting patterns in Vampire Knits by Genevive Miller. The book features 27 knitting projects featuring cozy caplets, sweaters, shrugs, arm warmers, scarves, socks, and more. I am particularly drawn to some of the beautiful cable knits like the arm warmers and neck warmers, cleverly titled “Pulse Protectors” (shown bottom left) and the Belissima mittens inspired by Bella of Twilight (shown bottom right). The cover project is the Lore Hoodie by Cirilia Rose of Berroco who was inspired by her long winter walks she took in between devouring Twilight and episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. The hoodie is a perfect sweater project for fall and I love the beautiful lace pattern in the lower half of the sweater. In fact, most of the projects in this book are a perfect for “back to fall/winter” knitting. Looking all all the gorgeous photos, you’ll just want to pick up your needles and knit! Find out more about the book on the Vampire Knits blog where you can also print a free pattern for the Tourniquet Scarf.

I can just imagine the patterns in this book – warm, comfortable, stylish with an edgy, rich colors (brown, green, amber), cool. Want. so. bad.

  25. 10yenadventures.blogspot.com says:

Love to have it just to be able to knit such gorgeous pieces, and just by the cover I’m inspired to pick up knitting needles again. Not to mention I could always work on my cabling!

  29. GYABO! says:

I’m a huge knitter and fan of most things vampire: True Blood, Buffy, Angel, Twilight (the books), Vampire Diaries, Bram Stoker’s Dracula… and I live in Pennsylvania, which is currently in full-on Autumn. I’m heading straight into gift knitting and this would be a perfect gift to reward myself with once the holidays are through. Also, I tend to love Cirilla’s designs — neeeeed that cardigan!

  30. kate says:

  33. Allypattern says:

I would love a copy of this book cause of the beautiful patterns! I’m sure they would be super fun to knit!!!

  34. mymomknits says:

I don’t have the patience for knitting, but my Mom does! I would like for her to have this pattern book so she could knit me the sweater on the cover. :-)

  35. LaKeta says:

When I am not feasting on unsuspecting humans for a blood meal, I find that I am really rather chilly, icy even. To bring warmth to my otherwise icy flesh, I knit. The prospect of a long cable knit cape to warm my skin and hide my preternatural eyes from my would be victims sounds heavenly. The Pulse Protectors would hide my lack of a pulse from those who would notice that I am one of the undead. Knitting all night until the sun comes up…. All that would be left is an undead Darcy and I would be set.

  36. Allara Serasai says:

because the patterns look amazing and so inspiring (and so warm) for the winter season coming up ^.^

  37. Cheri says:

    Very cozy and beautiful!

  39. neepknits says:

I would love to work on such beautiful cable pieces in between reading vampire fiction. Fun!

  40. Lyn449 says:

I would love to win this book. First reason: the title. How could I not want a knitting book with such a title? Second: the projects. All of them look likely winners, which even for the best knitting books, is hard to do; there’s always one or two not to taste. But not in this book, because of reason three: the ones less suitable for me would be perfect for friends and relatives. In fact, I’ve got it all planned out, as to who will get which project. So all you have to do is pick me as the winner, and you’ll be making bunches of people happy at once!

  41. Hutsefluts says:

Me likey! I just learned how to knit cables last year and am itching to start knitting some wintergear with cables! Especially in those colors, seems like a very inspiring book to me!

  42. wolfsong.myopenid.com says:

I’m the uncle to a 10 year old and a 17 year old who are both Twilight fans. I myself have been fascinated by vampires since I was even younger. These days most of my knit and crochet projects are gifts for them. It would be great to make them something unique that they can brag their uncle made them.

  43. Jennifer Carroll says:

I would LOVE this book because I am an avid Twilight fan & knitter who needs to keep her hands extra busy this Fall as I am awaiting the birth of my daughter this coming February! Being pregnant in the Fall and knitting these gorgeous pieces will help distract me from the delightful anxiousness of being a first time mom. A perfect way to spend more dream time with Edward – right??!!!!!

  44. Dena says:

I have this problem. Every time I look at this book at my LYS I end up drooling. They don’t appreciate it very much so it would be sooo cool to get my own and help cure my embarrassing ‘problem’.
There are so many patterns in here that I would love to gift to my family and friends. I already see things my boys would LOVE and I have the yarn picked out and my needles are just waiting for me to begin! click click clack clack (hear that?)
I cannot wait to curl up, watch me some awesome Vampire movies while knitting along sigh!

  45. dropdeaddusty says:

Living in northwestern PA, when I saw Bella’s mittens for the first time I coveted them because I am always so cold in the winter! I would love to make a pair for myself, and all my cold mom friends too. ;-)

  46. randomcreativity.wordpress.com says:

I am a novice knitter, but I would love the instructions to make such pretty things. :-)

  47. talkissheep says:

These knits look so soft and comfy…how could they be diabolical, too! I’d love to dive into this book and get my needles going!
    Sarah

  48. Cinda says:

Love the cables…just seeing the pictures, this book looks amazing. Warm things to knit in front of the fireplace…what could be more enjoyable? Thanks for a chance to win.

  49. justme187 says:

Too many nice looking accessories to choose just one that I want to make.

  50. stephig.wordpress.com says:

I want even more reason to continue my recent vampire fanaticism! More seriously though, cables and classy styled knits are what I look forward to making out of this book.

  51. craftina says:

Please enter me in this. My birthday is in just a couple of days and it would be a perfect gift to start knitting that sweater pictured on the cover!

  60. Samantha says:

Have had this book on my wish list since I first heard about it… But in attempts to be fiscally responsible haven’t yet bought it.

  61. megc says:

I’ve been searching for arm warmer patterns – and those cabled ones are to die for!

  62. thatgrrl says:

I really want this book not b/c it’s vampire-inspired but because the patterns seem to hit the fashion mark by being inspired by current trends yet not so trendy that in a few years they’ll seem unwearable.

  63. Shana says:

I’m “dying” to have this book! Such beautiful pieces, and I love the Twilight tie-ins.

  64. gothfaeriequeen says:

    I’d love this book.
    Why?
I’m learning to knit, and I think it would be fabulous to try and learn on something that I’d actually wear! And living in the cold prairie tundra of Canada always has me needing warm things to wrap up in!!!

  65. JeanC says:

I would love to sink my teeth into these patterns!

  66. Jackie says:

I just started knitting recently, and I am excited to try a bigger project, like these!!!

  67. UnDeadGoat says:

I had been shying away from this book for a little while, I suppose because I don’t really like the message of Twilight (or any vampire romance where becoming a vampire is romanticized), but I just looked through the patterns on Ravelry and discovered that there is a Drusilla-inspired corset, which, um, is just awesome. So sure–count me in! (And I suppose worsted-weight on-trend accessories *are* great for gifts . . .)

  68. Hanna says:

I would love this book because I love to knit but am stuck in my own ways. I have been knitting hats and scarves for Christmas presents, but have been using all of the same patterns. This book has such inspiring patterns! Thanks for this chance!

  69. thecuriomuseum says:

Not only do I love the styles, I need them. We have no money for oil and no money for the book. I’ve been wearing old black ski socks with the heel and toe cut out as arm warmers – seriously cool in it’s own light – but I’d love to make something pretty!

  70. Natalie Zee Drieu says:

    Entering in for Melody Johnson

  71. Beckysews says:

Oh my! What a fabulous book! Thanks for the chance to win.

  72. KnittingBetsy says:

I can hardly believe how many patterns are in that book that I would really want to knit. The photography looks beautiful. And patterns based on vamps? Could there be a more desirable book in print?
    ***Love it, Want it!,,***
