It’s actually easy to do with a knitting machine; old low-res graphics, like a circa 1988 PCX file can be easily turned into machine code. Most of the digital knitting machines can spool up to 8 colors. And if you have more colors, as long as they aren’t on the same row of knits, you can replace them easily. Doing that whole piece would take, at most, 30 minutes with a well formatted control file and the correct skeins of yarn.
