Today on Wired.com there’s a great article on “Crafty Geeks Launch Sewing 2.0” talking about the new wave of sewing and the Internet. The article starts off with one of our CRAFT friends Lisa Howdin of Fitzpatterns who is interviewed in CRAFT:02 and has contributed a number of stylish patterns of hers to our CRAFT Pattern Podcast. The Giants are Coming …
German media giant ‘Hubert Burda Media’ who has a long standing tradition in marketing fashion and women (via ELLE and Playboy magazine) is now catching up.
Their new Burdastyle site states that it strives to create an active community, but it really strives to become yet an other croudsourcing vampire: Anything you post will be owned by Burda.
If you want to stay in control of what happens to your creations, you better do it the way Kate does: All sewing patterns at Savvyseams are published under a Creative Commons licence.
It would be a very clever step if Burda turned into the SecondLife of Sewing, granting their users the right to own their creations. But maybe they are just too much of a Goliath to read the signs of the times…
stay krafty!
