If you’ve watched Print the Legend (and if not, why haven’t you? It single-handedly justifies the cost of a Netflix subscription), you’ve heard the story of the 3D Systems action against Formlabs’ SLA implementation. Now TechCrunch’s John Biggs is reporting that the lawsuit is gone:
The lawsuit between Form Labs and 3D Systems relating to stereolithography has been dismissed with prejudice, a move that frees Form Labs to make their printers without fear of further patent problems.
…
“It’s a big deal for us,” said Colin Raney of Form Labs. The terms of the settlement are undisclosed.
According to the film, the lawsuit was (nearly?) off once, and was on again after that. What happens next?
We’ll update you as details come in.
I found it weird that 3D systems would file that lawsuit when Formlabs hadn’t released any printers or software. Just seems like 3D systems is trying to muscle out any competition.
I also love that the only other comment is spam
a good documentary, that. Though i can’t work out if it did a number on Bre Pettis or if he really is that much of a dumbass
don’t dispute your point – it wasn’t very flattering to Bre. then again, not entirely sure he didn’t earn that treatment by essentially turning his back on the community that helped him.
