Artist Creates Breathtaking 3D Printed Lamps

New York artist and designer, Robert Debbane, creates stunning lamps using 3D printing technology. Applying the same technique as variable-depth pumpkin carving, where you don’t cut all the way through and you vary how much skin and meat you remove to let more or less light through, Debbane prints out sections of the lamp designs in ABS plastic and nylon while varying the thickness of the plastic. On his website, he explains the idea behind his lamp series (which he offers for sale):

Taking inspiration from Islamic tile patterns, forms found in nature, and images of outer-space, subjects Debbane has investigated through his artwork, the designs have a sculptural quality when unlit reminiscent of ancient relief sculptures. When turned on, the geometric patterns are revealed in a surprising and dramatic way.

You can see him putting one of the lamps together in this video.
