If you’d like a “cool refreshing drink,” but don’t really feel like mixing it yourself, why not just build a robot to do it for you? It might not save time in the long run (I seriously hope not), but as creator Yu Jiang Tham notes, “It’s great fun at parties!” Plus, in his case, this allowed him the opportunity to teach himself AngularJS. You can find the build details on his website, and the video below should give you a good idea of how it works.
The main components are 3D printed, but you’ll have to purchase some parts, including the 5/16 inch steel rods that hold everything together and a number of items on his purchased parts list. Printing should around 18 hours.
The robot is simple in concept, but beautifully executed. Five peristaltic pumps mounted in a line are used to mix ingredients from bottles. These pumps are controlled by an Arduino, which is in turn controlled by a nice looking web application that can be used with a touch device like an iPad. After all, who wants to have to open their computer like a simpleton to order a drink? What’s next, using a key to unlock your car?
