Maker Training Camp Wants You

Are you a maker who wants to share what you know? Maker Training Camp wants you to join its growing roster of instructors.

Maker Training Camps are collaborative online courses that teach new skills or how to build specific projects. Unlike the typical online course, our camps use Google+ hangouts and online communities to foster a group experience and make it easy to work with other students and teachers. Questions are posted on the online community for all to see. Instructors are asked to hold weekly office hours on a G+ hangout. Camps generally run from one to five weeks with a lecture, office hours, and a project each week. Tuition for some camps is free and others top out at $150, depending on the topic.

Our teachers are makers themselves. Some  have written MAKE books, some are professors, and some run businesses using what they teach. We select teachers based on their expertise, not whether they have multiple degrees.

We are looking for camp topics that will be interesting to a large number of students, teachable online, support several smaller projects and one open-ended project, and fit within a 4 to 6 week course.  Some of the courses we think would be interesting are:

  • Design for Manufacturability
  • Make Your First CNC Project
  • Introduction to Welding
  • Projects for Laser Cutters
  • Introduction to the Processing Language
  • How to Make Custom Printed Circuit Boards
  • Introduction to Drones
  • Understanding Schematics
  • Getting Good at Sketchup
  • Build a Trebuchet from Scratch
  • Toy Hacking
  • Learning 3D Design
  • Build a Kinect App
  • Build Your Own Weather Station
  • Making with Kids
  • Introduction to Wearables
  • Build Your First Robot
  • Build a Target Tracking System

If you are interested in teaching one of these subjects or have ideas for other classes, please email pthomas@makermedia.com and tell us what you’d like to teach and why.
