Launching this Saturday in Washington DC, is the DC Threads Sewing Lounge. This free program will be held on the second Saturday of each month at the North Michigan Recreation Center (1333 Emerson St, NE, Washington, DC 20017) from 1-4pm starting tomorrow.
The program will include a “sew-n-tell” hour where you can bring projects you are working on to share tips and exchange ideas, followed by guided projects that are fun and beginner-friendly. The first session will include a how-to session on a basic totebag/handbag, plus a “Stitchin’ for Change” project — making pillow cases for local homeless shelters and women’s shelters. They are encouraging participants to bring ideas for program topics and projects. Founders Allison and Laura first began planning for the sewing lounge over a year ago and are now able to make it possible thanks to support from the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce (GWFCC), and the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, which is providing space and sewing machines.
