It’s paste wax. You can get it at the hardware store. It’s also notorious for having the lifespan of a mayfly. Most woodworkers I’ve read who use it do so only for pieces they know won’t be handled much, and so won’t need to reapplication every few weeks.
If you really don’t want a finish with solvents and want a fairly hard-wearing finish, use walnut oil. It polymerizes much like linseed oil without the rancid stench.
Or if you’re willing to take a risk, use shellac chips — you don’t necessarily need mineral spirits if you don’t want the poisonous additives; you can go down to your local liquor store and pick up anything with an alcohol content of 90+%
