Dug North launches online automata plans index

Respected automata builder, blogger, and long-time MAKE pal Dug North has started collating plans for whirligigs, mechanical toys, and other automata in a single page:

People often write to me to ask if there are plans available for making your own automata. Indeed, there are some, but they are scattered around the internet, in magazines, and in books. To address this challenge, I’ve started a page that lists some resources for automata and mechanical toy plans for those interested in making their own. The page is divided into three categories:

  1. Free plans available online
  2. Plans that can be purchased in various ways
  3. Books that specifically contain automaton plans

If you find additional sources of plans, please send them along via the contact form.

Looks like a great resource, Dug! Thanks!
