Future hack: Monopoly card reader

Visa
New versions of Monopoly will have a Visa branded card reader – that’s sorta interesting, but I’m guessing there is fun to be had with a cheap magstripe reader (assuming that’s what they’re using) we’ll see – Link.

I seriously doubt the new Monopoly game uses magstripe cards (they are exceedingly expensive systems). Keying from similar systems, the cards most likely have holes or bumps (as the photo here suggests) to identify cards and the “reader” itself keeps track of balances.

I agree. The bumps on the cards appear to be shaped to allow for better insertion perpendicular to the reader. There also seem to be plastic “guides” on either side of the card insertion points on the reader that would indicated the cards aren’t swiped through.
