This knife-sharpening service still exists in my country (UY), although much rarer than 35 years ago.
The man announces himself by playing a distinctive tune on a panpipe.
This guy built that exact design: http://www.boingboing.net/2007/06/22/diy-gadgets-in-afric.html
I saw these in Uganda. It was a slightly different design. you had to ride it backewards
That’s great! Like something Grandpa would make.
The guy on Boingboing apparently has the grinder assembly fixed with a third pulley on the seat post to tension the belt… Better design. Cool mobile shop! Very practical, doesn’t need gas, and keeps you in shape.
It would be fun to add a disk sander, circular saw and drill press, too! And perhaps a blender for pinacoladas…
Love the guy working in the parking lot, too. Sometimes, playing in the dirt with a broken hammer, the inspiration just comes to you! I’ve had a few of those moments.
And the comments about the drill – did he use a welder to remove charge memory from the batteries somehow?
