Sean_st shares pics of his homegrown Settlers of Catan boardgame. He even carved his own buildings and roads from soapstone & alabaster! Have a closer look at his work on Flickr.

…but it still looks like it was made so as to not buy the real game, not to replace it. The carving is really nice but the “cards” and the hastily-scrawled in game pieces surely deserve more attention.
Yeah… it’s a weird juxtaposition. He carved the pieces from stone, which is great, but just drew on a deck of playing cards with marker for the game cards, which is underwhelming.
If you’ve got a game you want to create, definitely check out http://www.thegamecrafter.com. The service lets you upload your own artwork for custom cards/boards, choose your game parts from the online store, add currency, rulesheets, and more. Then it’s printed, assembled, and shipped to you within 7-10 days. No production minimum since it’s print-on-demand.
Kudos on your homemade version of Settlers!

Hey, give the guy a break. Maybe the cement wall behind his Rachel Welch poster just happens to provide him with a lot of spare soapstone to work with…
Yeah, the cards bugged me too, so I just bought a replacement deck. I wanted to find blank cards to make it but couldn’t. The cards here were just a temporary solution.
This really is wonderful. I love the simplicity and functionality of it.
Outstanding! Thanks for sharing.
