Flickr member ohammersmith lasercut a full set of chess pieces from plywood –
This is a chess set I made for my Grandfather’s 90th birthday.
I designed them in SketchUp and cut them out of 1/8″ plywood with the laser cutter at TechShop Durham.

this is a great idea, and wonderfully designed.
I have a new CNC router, I will have to attempt something similar. I do like the dark edges from the laser cutter.
