As in previous Maker Faires and Mini Maker Faires, this year’s event will feature Power Racing Series race, where grownups race ride-on toy cars, supercharged with larger motors and batteries. That said, the PPPRS has been around for a few years now, and we’re starting to see the teams move beyond the basics to really flex their creative skills.
Case in point, Ithaca Generator’s Dragon racer (#116) created by team Race Condition uses what looks like a toy tractor as the chassis, but has been accented with a fierce dragon head. Other racers have added James-Bond-esque secret tricks to their cars. As one driver told me, they’re driving around on toy cars–they should have fun!
The Power Racing track has been set up in Zone B at the Faire… check it out!

Thanks for the wonderful article and the picture of our dragon. The power racing series has been an absolute blast!
Can I suggest a correction? The article speaks of the Ithaca labs, the hacker space is actually called the Ithaca Generator and the team name is Race Condition. (Named after an issue with multi threaded programs.)
Fixed, thanks Paul!
