MAKE pal Aaron Ristau makes and sells these lovely wireless mice given the deluxe retro-robo-junk-art treatment. At $180 apiece, they’re a bit rich for my blood, but have inspired me to maybe try reskinning a peripheral or two of my own.
i actually feel sorry for the poor, probably beautiful, typewriter that seems to have been mercilessly savaged to create these hideous Frankensteinesque monstrosities.
$180
Four screws to change a battery
buttons get in the way of scrolling
The shape is clearly not ergonomic
oh and they are ugly to boot.
not one single redeeming factor.
Shannon Larrattsays:
I like these, but I think it’s worth noting that they are not technically “reskinned”. It’s more like a mouse wearing really cool clothing. Unless I’m missing something, what he’s done is just fit a dome over top of a regular mouse with a couple holes in it so typewriter keys can press down on the original buttons, and so that you can access the scroll wheel.
Like I said, I do like it plenty, but this is not a true case mod or reskinning — it’s just a decorated mouse. That said, what a clever way to make a custom mouse with a method that almost anyone could do.
