Decorative wreaths? I could take them or leave them. Living plant wreaths, however, are an entirely different story. With nearly endless options for color, pattern, and texture, succulent wreaths are pretty much the perfect choice for decorative DIY gardens, no matter what your style.

DIY Succulent Wreath

We’ve probably all seen those spreads in fancy home or gardening magazines with gorgeous succulent wreaths hanging casually on a front door or garden shed and thought, “Oh man! I’m totally going to make one of those!” But then reality sinks in, and it becomes clear that making a succulent wreath—or, at least one that’s going to thrive—is probably more complicated than just squishing some attractive plants together in a circle and hoping for the best. (If you’ve already tried this, sorry to rain on your parade!) So, how is it really done? Turns out, beyond healthy plants and clippings, the key to successful succulent wreaths is a sphagnum moss wreath frame, which basically acts as a planter but also provides structure, allowing the growing wreath to maintain its round shape. Mystery solved!
