Congratulations to TechShop, for the grand opening of a new location in San Jose, California. Carl Bass, CEO of Autodesk cuts through the metal “ribbon” with a torch at the grand opening Saturday afternoon to glee of all onlookers.
Makers and Crafters, we are all fortunate enough to have this resource available to us. It serves not only makers with their high tech tools and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines, but also to crafters with their amazing selection of textile and woodworking tools.
While milling through the new space I saw a fantastic quilting machine, CNC sewing machines with a screen will tell you their availability or if they are already reserved, a very cool feature to help organize our unique group.
In the wood shop I found a half completed kayak, I tracked down the creator, a mister Blaine, a TechShop employee who created this project as an example and inspiration to members, he completed more than half of the kayak in only six hours, using only two sheets of plywood and some wood strips for the frame.
For those in the area I highly recommend checking out the new location, and to all other creators check out the TechShop in your area and see what other hacker spaces are available to you.
