Fun with Abstract Origami and Tyvek at LA’s CRASH Space

Origami has become an increasingly meditative and metaphorical practice in my life. When I need to slow down, I take origami breaks and turn my mind off to tessellate patterns into paper, molding peaks and valleys from a single plane. Let’s get away from our carpal tunnel inducing daily lives for a moment to learn the art of abstract origami. I’ll be teaching you the beautifully simple zig zag accordion fold (pictured above) and providing Tyvek material for us to reuse. I find that Tyvek is soft to the touch and it takes to creases well. This workshop will be free to everyone, including materials (but donations are always welcome).

The origami workshop will take place Saturday, March 24th at noon.

“Evil Hacker” Photoshoot at Mountain View’s Hacker Dojo

Come dressed as an evil hacker OR bring props OR lighting/photo gear. WHY? We’re doing a photo shoot (for fun) in order to provide Google Image search some better pictures for “hacker” so news articles stop stealing our logo.

Seedbombing Night at Vancouver Hack Space

come one, come all to the second evar vhs horticultural night. i will be bringing supplies and instructions on how to make seed bombs. i have the red clay powder, compost and an interesting selection of westcoast non-invasive seeds. i will also bring some seedling racks on which we can dry the bombs.

seed bombs are one half inch diameter models of the living world. they can be made by anyone anywhere in the world where there is clay, soil, seed and water. seed bombs work on all scales, small to large, and can be air dropped over broad areas, or scattered by hand into vacant lots! hundreds of kinds of mixed seeds, soil humus and dry powdered red brown clay, form the solid components of seed bombs.

Seedbombing Night will be held on Tuesday, April 17th at 7pm and the cost is $2.

Jax Locksport at Hacksonville Hackerspace

We’re having a Jax Locksport meeting on Friday, April 6. We’re meeting at Tijuana Flats in San Marco (5635 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL, 32207) on the first Friday of every month at 6:30pm, with the Jax2600/DC904 group. We will continue to combine the two groups until we have enough members and are stable enough to branch it off into a separate meeting.

We’ve got plenty of locks and picks, people who are eager to help teach others, and we’re planning on having some kind of competition/giveaway. It should be a lot of fun, and I hope to see a lot of people there!

The event is being organized by Jess Hires, who can be reached at @hacksonville on Twitter.
