Here at Makezine, we’re usually posting about all the high tech stuff that makers can jam into a small mint tin. However, Instructables user eclipsed takes an altogether different tack. Her how-to guide walks you through the process of turning an Altoids tin into a pocket abacus. To make your own, all you’ll need is an awl, some wire, beads, and of course an Altoids tin. While I don’t think I’ll be deleting the calculator app on my phone anytime soon, I think this cute and smart project is just another example of the creative possibilities with these popular tins.
