The editors of Apartment Therapy and Blueprint/Bluelines are co-hosting the January Jumpstart Project. AT:LA editor Gregory Han explains:
An editor from every site is tackling their own project, their own January Jumpstart Project, and mine is this 1950’s stereo cabinet ages I found ages ago on a curbside nearby. It’s remained on the “one day…some day” to-do list for way too long. So this coming January, I’m going to finally give myself swift kick in the behind and get going on bringing this blast from past back to the sophisticated glory it deserves.
Should be fun to follow along as the editors work–and if you submit photos of your own completed project by January 21, you could even win a prize. Link.

I have a console stereo in my front hall– half the width of Gregory’s, made by GE with a nice mahogany case, even has aux RCA inputs on the back– fully functional hi-fi! Currently it’s a nice place to drop my keys and wallet etc. with plenty of room for shoes underneath…
The (tube) amp works, so the long term plan is to refurbish the electronics but replace the turntable with a little bar– room for a few glasses, bottles, trays, and an ice bucket.
For this Jumpstart project, I’d love to see them refinish the wood and replace the fabric, set it up as a stereo but with the whole middle section set up as a bar, with lights, an ice machine, sink, everything!
