The Wooly Fair Space Station is the central element for Wooly Fair 2011, To the Moon! The Space Station is a superstructure made up of 21 individual pods (8’xl0′ temporary structures) that will be joined together for the event to create a massive ring around the grounds of the Steel Yard. Individuals, groups, or entities are invited to propose an installation for each pod that expresses their particular vision of space and/or the future within the following parameters:
- It must be ingenious
- It must be interactive
- It must be sustainable
- It must attempt to change minds

the pod looks like a hexayurt with a transparent top. Does anyone have anymore information on them? It seems like it would be good for a greenhouse.
Hi Daniel,
Yes, the Pods would be excellent as greenhouses and we would love to attract gardeners/horticulturalists to the space station project. For the project to succeed we are looking to attract innovators from a wide variety of fields.
We have imagined these pods as a great opportunity for someone who has been working on a concept to have a ready-made studio to develop it in and then, during the Fair itself, a large audience of people to present it to. Plus we are designing the 21 pods so that they will be communicating with each other in ways that are immediately apparent and other ways that are more subtle.
As far as materials are concerned, we are planning on using marine shrink wrap for the top, and wood for the base. We’ll be building the proto-pod this Sunday at the Steel Yard at 27 Sims in Providence and will post the documentation on our website, thewooled.com.
We encourage anyone with interest in this project to apply. Once the project is up and running you will be working among many other makers so there’s a great opportunity here for cross pollination.
