    I would like to get one of these, but I wondered if there are any Linux tools with which I can use it. Anybody?

    Yes, there is a linux toolchain. See MSPGCC.

    Thanks! That looks great. Any idea how the USB is exposed to linux soyou can take advange of the inbuilt debugger?

    When I first saw one of these TI microcontrollers (in a Power-over-Ethernet power supply), I looked up the data sheet. It reminded me very much of the PDP-11 — a number of 16-bit registers, all general-purpose, with powerful addressing modes. Seems that the author of this web page had the same thought:

    But look how small the chip is compared to a PDP-11!
