Over the past couple years, one of the bigger stories in the Maker Movement has been the splintering of the Arduino brand into two competing groups trying to use the same name.
The story has many twists and turns and seems to have been quite rocky for all involved. Today at World Maker Faire New York however, Arduino co-founder Massimo Banzi, and Federico Musto of Arduino.org announced that the two groups have signed a settlement agreement that reconnect the two divisions into one group.
“Today is one of the best days in Arduino history,” Banzi discusses on the Arduino.cc blog “This allows us to start a new course for Arduino made of constructive dialogue and disruptive innovation in the Education, Makers and IoT fields. The Arduino Foundation will allow us to champion the core values of the Arduino Community within the open source ecosystem and to make our commitment to open source stronger than ever. This is really a new beginning for Arduino!”
The agreement creates a single distribution aspect to the brands; Genuino, the name adopted by the Arduino.cc group for global use, will continue to be a line within that.
