Oh, bless ‘im. And, heck, this suit might actually be good for something.
But it should be noted that Troy also claims to have inventions that allow him to see through large solid objects (the “Angel Light”, which came to him in dreams…), and cure serious diseases (the “God Light”).
He backs up these claims in the traditional gold standard scientific way – not by patenting the technology and then opening it up for public testing, but by offering a reward to anybody who can prove him wrong.
It’s far from impossible for cranks to invent useful things – cf. Nikola Tesla – but Troy Hurtubise really does seem to be fairly seriously unhinged, these days.
It’s not like it is hard to bulletproof yourself to some degree all over. The issue is that you can’t really move very well, and nor can you see or hear (or smell, touch or taste for that matter) when in a tactical situation.
There might also be issues with looking like an alien or the guy out of HALO when near others with guns. Heck, if that came running through the trees at you, you’d open fire first, and work out it wasn’t the Predator later.
Oh, and I doubt it stopped an “elephant gun” that wasn’t black powder, not if it only weighs the claimed 18Kg. My rifle plates are 4.5Kg and they only cover the heart from rifle fire.
Unless the guy is seriously unhinged (Anyone who stands in front of a pickup truck at 20 mph may need meds ;) I’d love to see an article on this guy in next issue of make :)

how about something drastically more expenive and much lighter weight? like a rare breed of spider silk. A pencil thickness of it could literally stop a 747 in its tracks.. er.. flight. and a tshirt can stop a bullet. the downside? too much flexibility means it practically goes through you anyways, it’s just imbedded in the shirt, but still, might lead somewhere better than robocop up there.
this guy fucking rocks
