UPDATE: Deadline extended until Sunday, March 2, at midnight PST.

Calling all makers near and far! Do you have an amazing project you want to share with the community? Our 9th annual Maker Faire Bay Area, our “home game” that started it all, is taking place May 17 and 18 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. The Call for Makers is only open for about one more week, ending on February 23. We’ve started the process earlier this year to be sure that we showcase truly the best of the best. Space is limited and filling up fast, so take some time this weekend to get your application in.

Last year’s Maker Faire Bay Area featured over 900 maker exhibits! To boot, we had over 120,000 attendees representing 47 states and 36 countries. It was truly the world’s largest DIY festival and the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth. Every year it gets bigger and better!

Never been to a Maker Faire and wondering what it’s all about? Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these “makers” come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned. In a nutshell, it’s a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement.

I'm a word nerd who loves to geek out on how emerging technology affects the lexicon. I was an editor on the first 40 volumes of MAKE, and I love shining light on the incredible makers in our community. In particular, covering art is my passion — after all, art is the first thing most of us ever made. When not fawning over perfect word choices, I can be found on the nearest mountain, looking for untouched powder fields and ideal alpine lakes.
