Our Bazaar Bizarre profiles continue! We’re only a few weeks out from Maker Faire Bay Area, and things are really gearing up for a fantastic weekend. As a special countdown to Maker Faire, we’ll be profiling some of the awesome folks who will be at Bazaar Bizarre at Maker Faire. Even if you aren’t able to be at Maker Faire, you don’t want to miss out on the work of these fantastic vendors. Today we introduce you to Alena Hennessy who creates gorgeous paintings, prints and screen printed goods.

Tell us about what you’ll be showcasing at Maker Faire/Bazaar Bizarre:
Paintings, prints, screen printed t shirts, totes and accessories.
How did you get started hand crafting your goods?
I have been art making since I was very little, so its been a little less than 30 years now! But as a business for the last 5 years. I created some different lines of work and a website for my goods to sell and it all went from there. I started working in a sweet bungalow farmhouse and had a lot of time during that period in my life to make art. I was fortunate enough to be able to have that window.

What are your main sources of inspiration?
Spending time in nature, plant forms, experimenting with hue, line quality, the different elements in art. I love travel and music too. Lately I cannot get enough of Eric Satie or Tycho – minimal and melodic instrumental work. I also like to drink a yummy iced coffee or green tea and get amped up to work – so caffeine helps as well.
What new idea (in or outside of your field) has excited you most recently?
Well, recently I have come to realize that I am most inspired by the support that artists and crafters give to one another as compared to other creative fields. I have noticed this a lot lately that we are a generous, sharing group…not as competitive as I have seen in the field of dance, for instance.

What is your motto?
Live each day to the fullest, for it is a gift, and we truly never know what the future holds, so we need to make the most of our time here. However challenging, life is precious.
