We’re less than weeks out from Maker Faire Bay Area, and things are really gearing up for a fantastic weekend. As a special countdown to Maker Faire, we’ll be profiling some of the awesome folks who will be at Bazaar Bizarre at Maker Faire. Even if you aren’t able to be at Maker Faire, you don’t want to miss out on the work of these fantastic vendors. Today we introduce you to Fat Rabbit Farm.
How did you get started hand crafting your goods?
Sometime back in 2006, we wanted to wear something unique, funny, and bold after seeing so much chain-like designs at stores. We got referred by a screen printing supplies shop to visit a man who manufactured screen printing equipment and became our mentors. Soon, we began printing our designs by hand. And still to this day, we hand-print all of our apparel, tote bags, and even our shopping bags.
What are your main sources of inspiration?
Our inspiration occurs at weird and random times when we least expect it. From taking a walk in the park and stepping on poo to even just driving on the 5 north to San Francisco and seeing a sign. It just happens! But all in all if all else fails we can always just stare at our two fat bunnies that we have, Babee and Blanket, which they always manage to telepathically instill new ideas into our heads.
What new idea (in or outside of your field) has excited you most recently?
The most exciting gossip roaming around the farm is our first children’s book, which is currently in the works! The title, which is Babee and the Valley of the Hungry Ninjas, was developed from someone’s license plate that said “hungry valley.”
What is your motto?
