Calling all Makers: Apply Now to the 5th Annual World Maker Faire New York!

It’s hard to believe the Call for Makers for the 5th annual World Maker Faire New York is now open. Heck, we’re still celebrating last year’s milestone of 100 Maker Faires around the world. And we’re set to hit 140 this year, including the first ever White House Maker Faire and Maker Faire Paris, as well as regional show & tells in Kansas City and Detroit, and many, many more. Chances are there’s a Maker Faire near you — and if there isn’t, you can bring one to your local community!

But back to the city of five boroughs.MF14NY_Badge_620sq

This year will undoubtedly be special. Not only is 2014 poised to be a “breakout year” for the maker movement — Year of the Maker indeed! — but New York City is celebrating this little thing called the anniversary of the World’s Fair. Twice! It was 75 years and 50 years ago, respectively, that the 1939 and 1964 fairs opened. Remnants from those fairs can still be seen throughout the largest park in Queens where they took place and where World Maker Faire New York now occurs annually every September.

World Maker Faire’s host and partner, the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI), has direct lineage to the ’64 fair — their Great Hall being a centerpiece of that facility’s participation (itself marred by construction delays but boy oh boy do tesla coils look cool inside there decades later!). And NYSCI’s programming recently expanded to include Design Lab, a years-in-progress maker-friendly lineup of workshops, classes, and spaces in their Central Pavilion.

We couldn’t ask for a better host, in a better borough, at a better time.

Sign up for the 5th annual World Maker Faire New York to show us — and the world! — what you make!

From e-textiles to pedal-powered contraptions, green tech to biomech, for the latest application of 3D printing to your homemade home automation systems, we want you involved! We want makers, presenters, performers, and sponsors at all levels. There’s room for everyone at the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth.

Hope to see you there!
