Carl & Jerry PDF – “Electronic Cops and Robbers”

Jeff just posted up a Carl & Jerry story PDF from the February 1957 Popular Electronics called “Electronic Cops and Robbers”. Carl & Jerry stories are some of my favorites, the original author John T. Frye wrote over 119 tales of electronic hackery – the book Jeff recently published of the stories with Copper Wood is fantastic and it’s now part of my perma-MAKE collection of electronics books. Jeff is experimenting with giving away a PDF a week or so to see if it helps sales of the book so go grab it and if you like the stories pick up a copy! – Link & more.

Does anyone remember some kids books from the eighties where two brothers would solve problems by writing BASIC code? Each story included the source code so you could type it in to your own Commodore 64 or whatever.

Who are Carl and Jerry? When I was a child, I remember reading the original stories in Popular Electronics. Some time in the 1960s I ran into two field engineers who worked for Pitney-Bowes, and they were named Carl and Jerry, and they looked amazingly like the story characters, but a bit older.

    Does anyone know?

I just thought I’d let people know that I ordered a copy of this book from Lulu, and I was pleasantly surprised. The book is extremely high quality, I would have never guessed that it had come from an independent publisher if I hadn’t ordered it myself.

The Carl and Jerry stories themselves are interesting (if not cheesy). I’m learning electronics right now, and it’s embarrassingly exciting when they discuss a topic that I recently learned about.

Overall, if you’re looking for a little nostalgia, or if you want to see what all the fuss is about because you weren’t alive in the 1950’s, then you should definitely pick up a copy of this book for yourself.

Exactly Jim, “Who are Carl and Jerry?” I can’t recall?
