Daiso Japan in Daly City, CA

Daiso

After reading on Not Martha and Anh-Minh’s blog about the new Daiso Japan store that just opened up in the Bay Area, how could I not check it out? Right in Serramonte Center in Daly City, CA (about 20 minutes from San Francisco), the life/homewares store is a feast for anyone, especially a craft lover. Pretty much everything in the store is $1.50, unless otherwise marked. I don’t think I saw a sticker price for an item that was more than $3.

If you live in the Bay Area come by and stock up on a variety of paper from handmade, origami, wrapping paper, colored paper, and even colored foam-core board. There are ribbons and embellishments as well as a wide array of cute Japanese stationary. And don’t get me started on the pens. There’s a whole rack where all four sides are pens, pencils, you name it. Water color paints and acrylic paints adorn one aisle while a whole row of sketch books and notebooks lie on the other side. Did I mention almost everything is $1.50? You can easily get overwhelmed in the store because they literally sell everything. It’s also fun to check out all the humorous japanese products, especially in the Beauty department. I left the store with a bunch of crafty things from origami paper, tiny pink plastic scissors, basket-weave paper, green colored twine, a bunch of pens, and the origami owl kit pictured above. There are four stores in the US so far — 3 in Washington state and the 1 in California. Check out the oversea store list for more information. So there are 4 Daiso stores in Kuwait, which is the size of Rhode Island, and only 1 in America?! What’s up with that? Who do we petition for more??? :-)

Well there are actually 4 stores in the US and 3 of them in Washington state! Contact the corporate headquarters and let them know you want one near you.

Does anyone know if there is a website for the Daiso Japan store in which you can order products from? They have nothing on their website. Maybe one of the stores would have some kind of online ordering? Thanks! barbemizzi@wowway.com

My husband and I stumbled across this store yesterday on our way back from a lovely afternoon in Half Moon Bay. It is so incredible! I had seen some of these products in Japantown, but the prices in Daiso are so low that I filled a whole shopping cart up for $71. It’s a crafter’s paradise, and it’s not even trying to be. Of course everything’s in Japanese with few translations, so when my husband kept asking, “what’s that for?” I’d say, “I don’t know, but isn’t it cool?”

This store definitely rocks! The only Canadian location is in Richmond, B.C. – when I visited Vancouver last year getting to this store was on the top of my list and so I made the 1 hour bus trek outside the city. Definitely worth it: bamboo knitting needles, tons of origami paper, make your own stamp kits…Tip: set a budget before you go in!

They also have a Daiso Japan store now in Mountain View and at one of the malls in Fremont

I have heard Daiso has a Banana carrier for $1.50.
Can I order on line from any store?
