Patrick Hood-Daniel was designing and hand assembling surface mounted circuit boards for his CNC machines at Working with those little tweezers gets old pretty quick; it seems only natural that he would design a pick and place machine to replace him and supplement his line of DIY machines.

Custom software derives the tool path based on the Eagle files for the PCB
Weights pull the plastic covering from the components as the spool rotates.
