You meet all kinds of interesting people at Maker Faire. One of my highlights from World Maker Faire New York was hearing Seth “Dr. Adventure” Kane hold a standing room-only crowd enthralled as he discussed new frontiers in prosthetics and human enhancements. Will super powers be available to mere mortals? Dr. Adventure says they already are and more are on the way.

Kane is largely self-taught and works out of a New Jersey workshop. He is particularly excited about the full body armor project for amputees complete with muscle and nerve control he’s working on that will allow them to pursue extreme sports or risky work like firefighting or search and rescue. Most of all he wants to see what devices young makers are going to make.

“I have no idea what the next generation of makers is going to come up with next,” he told me in an interview. “That will be great to see.”

The presentation he gave at Maker Faire New York above should serve as inspiration.
