Starting tomorrow, Barnes & Noble bookstores across the United States will be hosting a Mini Maker Faire to run all weekend long, November 6–8. Make: is very excited to announce this partnership, because Makers now have a new opportunity to show off their inventions, share ideas, and meet other Makers in their community. All 650 Barnes & Noble locations will be participating, so check out the closest store to you to join in on the fun!
“We’re so pleased to bring making into the national spotlight through this exciting program,” says Sherry Huss, Vice President of Event Operations and co-founder of Maker Faire. “Barnes & Noble is one of our most important partners and the largest reseller of Make: magazine. Now Barnes & Noble customers who know us through Make: will be introduced to the Maker Faire experience. With access to tools and resources, they can learn new skills, discover their personal making passion, and be inspired by local Makers in their communities.”
Kathleen Campisano, Vice President, Toys & Games at Barnes & Noble, is also excited to host the event. “Literacy is at the core of what we do, and rolling out the first-ever Mini Maker Faire in stores nationwide signals our commitment to what we believe it means to be literate in the 21st century,” Campisano says. “Tech literacy and being tech literate is a huge part of engaging in everyday life and remaining connected to the world.”
The Mini Maker Faire will consist of three main parts. The Make Workspace will showcase the latest technologies in 3D printing, robotics, coding, programming, and more. The Make & Collaborate area encourages attendees as young as 5-years-old to get hands-on and immerse themselves in project-based learning in topics that include rapid prototyping, circuitry, art, design, construction, programming, coding, and 3D printing. The final part, Meet the Makers, will vary by location, although the first five authors’ books will be available at every store.

- Kathy Ceceri, author of Making Simple Robots and Make: Paper Inventions, will be in Albany, New York, on Saturday, and Saratoga Springs, New York, on Sunday.
- Windell Oskay, author of The Annotated Build-It-Yourself Science Lab, will be in San Jose, California, on Friday.
- Kate Hartman, author of Make: Wearable Electronics, will be at the Fifth Ave. store in New York City on Friday.
- Anne Marie Thomas, author of Making Makers, will be at the Mall of America store on Saturday.
- Dale Dougherty, founder and Executive Chairman of Maker Media, will be at the Union Square store in New York City on Friday.
- Sherry Huss, Vice President of Event Operations and co-founder of Maker Faire, will be in Emeryville, California on Friday.
- Make: books publisher Brian Jepson will be at the Warwick, Rhode Island, store on Saturday and the Smithfield, Rhode Island, store Friday through Sunday.
- Matt Stultz, Make:‘s resident 3D printing expert, will be at the Smithfield, Rhode Island, store on Saturday.
- Make: books editor and author of Make: 3D Printing Anna Kazunias France will be at the Warwick, Rhode Island, store on Friday.
- Matt Richardson, author of Getting Started With Raspberry Pi, will be at the Emeryville, California, store on Saturday.
- Carla Diana, author of Leo the Maker Prince, will be in the Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, store on both Saturday and Sunday.
- Tom Igoe, author of Making Things Talk and co-founder of the Arduino Project, will be at the Fifth Ave. New York City store on Sunday.
- John Park, a contributor to 3D Printing Projects, will be at the Grove Market store in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday.
- James Floyd Kelley, another contributor to 3D Printing Projects, will be in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday.
- Mike Westerfield, author of Make: Rockets, will be in two Albuquerque, New Mexico, stores on both Saturday and Sunday.
- Don Wilcher, author of Make: Basic Arduino Projects, will be in Madison, Alabama, on Saturday.
- Belinda and Terry Kilby, co-authors of Getting Started with Drones, will be at the Baltimore, Maryland, store on Saturday and then at the BelAir, Maryland, store on Sunday.
- Kaden Harris, author of The Eccentric Cubicle, will be at the Beaver Creek, Ohio, store on Saturday.
- David Simpson, a contributor to Best of Make Volume 2, will be in Paramus, Livingston, Morris Plains, and Springfield, New Jersey, on Saturday and Sunday.

Yes – all 650 stores in the US. It is pretty exciting. Getting feedback from Makers and Attendees – and things are going well. I was on the West Coast last night kicking it off.

I brought my Raspberry Pi and Arduino to the store in Victorville, CA and displayed them for all three days. Had a great time, met a lot of interested people. It was a small start for Barnes & Noble, but a great time for everybody that wants to see more makers and builders! I fully support this new direction for them.
