I had seen some similar plans for these homemade generators before, including ones made from modern vertical shaft lawn mower motors. This company actually sells a premade bracket for this purpose. here’s a link for that:

While I was trying to find the plans described above, I stumbled on another set of plans where you use the old lawn mower as a cart for the new generator. i have to say the alternator mounting brackets on this design look a little sketchy, but the basic concept is pretty ingenious. here’s a link to that:
